اخت ام ريان هذا شرح النظريه والرسمات مهمه لازم تضيفيها....
طبعا موجوده في الكتاب الاول.. وهذا جبته من ملخص موجود بلقسم b632

Herzberg view of motivation "Two-Factor-Theory"
Herzberg argued that the traditional model of motivation which said that a single motivation factor continuum running from satisfaction to dissatisfaction was incorrect. There are hygiene factors which would help to remove dissatisfaction but it would not increase satisfaction. Hygiene factors play little part in motivation employees, they are necessary to maintain a reasonable level of motivation, and people expect them to be there, but improving them will not increase job satisfaction.
Hygiene factors: The presence or absence of job dissatisfiers, such as working conditions, pay, company policies, and interpersonal relationships. When hygiene factors are poor, work is dissatisfying.
Motivators Factors: Factors related to high-level needs, such as achievement, recognition, responsibilities and opportunity for growth, when motivators are present work is satisfying.

Herzberg raises some important general points about motivation at work:
• You can increase satisfaction by enabling people to take responsibility for what they do and how they do it.
• You can reduce dissatisfaction by having effective organizational policies and procedures, paying well, improve working environment and so on. But improve these factors will not motivate people to work better.
• The distinction between motivators and hygiene factors is helpful to managers because it demonstrates the potentially powerful role of intrinsic rewards that evolves from the work itself.

The Herzberg model has been criticized on many counts:
First: The terms 'satisfaction' and 'motivation' are used as if they are interchangeable, whereas they can mean quit different things.
Second: it is applicable only to staff at managerial and professional levels.
Third: the theory oversimplifies the situation, it assume that people work simply to satisfy needs.

3. Outcomes: expectancy theory
It is not just having reward or incentive is important in motivating behavior, but the link between effort and reward.
• Some rewards come anyway, and not likely to be effective as motivators.
• Some rewards are linked directly to effort and can motivate people.
• Other rewards are linked to effort in a 'probabilistic' way that the link between effort and reward need not direct.

One more element is needed, performance, when reward is given it is usually for the results of the effort rather than for the effort itself, so the performance is rewarded rather than the effort itself. Also if there was low effort and poor performance, then the result could be punishment (cost) rather than reward.

Expectancy theory suggests that people weigh up the cost and benefits and base their decisions on this calculation. Sometimes the cost of working harder may outweigh the benefits. Also if a reward or cost is to have any effect on a person's behavior, the person must either want the reward or want to avoid the cost.

If you want to improve motivation at work, expectancy theory implies that you need to consider three distinct factors:
• The link between effort and performance
• The link between performance and rewards/costs
• The types of rewards/cost available

Linking effort and performance
If the link between effort and performance is weak the less motivation will be. If you feel that no matter how hard you work your performance will not improve, you are unlikely to be motivated to work harder.
Expectancy theory suggest that any attempt at improving motivation is doomed to failure if due attention is not paid to the relationship between effort and performance, and the main factors which affect this link.

Ability: whether the person is capable of the required performance.
Goals: clear, agreed, and measurable goals are needed and regular feedback on performance should be given.
Resources: the resources required to do a job (tools, material, equipment and necessary information).
Time: give people as much notice as possible.
Job design: does the job have too much variety to be done effectively?

Linking performance and rewards/costs
People will not be motivated if they are unaware of the link between performance and rewards. If promotion depends on performance, make sure that people know this.
Types of rewards/costs available
• Intrinsic rewards/cost: they do not have to be given by somebody else, intrinsic rewards include a sense of achievement, a feeling of having learned something or having performed a worthwhile job.
• Extrinsic rewards: those which have to be given by someone else (pay, promotion ...)
