EA300A Material for Final Examination

Dear students, Your EA300A Final exam will focus on the following items: Format: The final exam will have 3 sections: Section 1: You will have two reading passages from 2 different literary works. You will be asked to do a close reading of one of the two passages. Each passage will have some guiding questions asking you to focus on certain aspects of the literary work. You need to zoom in on the passage primarily, demonstrate clearly that you are closely reading and analyzing the passage, and then you can relate the passage you are examining with other incidents in the novel to support your reading of the passage. You need to support your reading with references to relevant critical essays. Section 2: You will have 2 questions and you will have to choose one question to answer. Section 3: You will have 2 questions and you will have to choose one question to answer. Content • 25% of the exam will focus on block 1. • 75% of the exam will focus on block 2 &3. You need to focus on the following material: A. Literary works 1. Block 1: Northern Lights 2. Block 2: Little Women and Treasure Island 3. Block 3: Only poetry. Peter Pan will NOT be included. B. Critical essays You will need to be familiar with the following critical essays. 1. Dust as ****phor in Philip Pullman by Anne-Marie Bird 2. Obedience, Disobedience, and Storytelling… by Naomi Wood 3. ’Little Women: Alcott’s Civil War’ by Judith Fetterley 4. ”’Wake up and be a man”: Little Women, Laurie, and the ethic of submission’ by Ken Parille 5. ‘Slaves to adventure: the pure story of Treasure Island’ by Diana Loxley 6. ‘Treasure Island and the romance of the British Civil Service’ by Christopher Parkes. 7. ’The language of poems for children: a stylistic case study’ by Lesley Jeffries Good luck to all Dr. Chekra Allani Dr. Mouhiba Jamousi
